Following the discovery of a woman and a young child deceased in Dorsten, police have apprehended a teenage suspect.
Prosecutors in Essen and the Recklinghausen Police Headquarters jointly announced on Monday that a 16-year-old Ukrainian male, also residing in Dorsten, presented himself to officers at the scene on Sunday evening. He subsequently admitted involvement in the incident and was taken into custody.
The victims, a 32-year-old Ukrainian woman and her 1-year-and-7-month-old daughter, were found unresponsive in the Holsterhausen district of Dorsten on Sunday. Preliminary autopsy results have confirmed suspicions of foul play. Investigations are ongoing.
Forensic examination of the scene continued until late Sunday and authorities have since lifted the imposed cordon. Police report receiving numerous tips from the public, which are currently being assessed. No connection has yet been established between this incident and a robbery reported on June 26th.
