Tariffs Frozen in Shock Move

The United States has delayed the planned introduction of tariffs on Canada for at least 30 days, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday following a conversation with US President Donald Trump.

Prior to this, tariffs on Mexico had already been postponed for a month, with the aim of negotiating the future of the relationship between the two North American neighbors during that time.

Earlier, Trump had announced a 25% import duty on all imports from Mexico and on most goods from Canada, as well as a 10% tariff on energy products from Canada and on Chinese goods, with the new tariff added to the existing one in the case of China. The exemption, which currently applies to goods worth up to $800, will also be eliminated. This exemption is used by many US small businesses, as well as large Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Shein or Temu.

Meanwhile, the US President also announced that he is demanding Rare Earths from the war-torn country of Ukraine in exchange for his country’s help against Russia’s attack. There was no public reaction from the Ukrainian side initially.
