In a recent interview, Christoph Meyer, the deputy faction leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), expressed openness to negotiating with the Taliban to accelerate the deportation of individuals from Syria and Afghanistan. According to Meyer, the realpolitik demands confronting the issue, and he believes that this may require deviating from the comfort zone of German foreign policy.
Meyer reaffirmed the FDP’s call for a special ministerial conference following the Aschaffenburg violence. He emphasized that the discussion revolves around state and administrative failures at the regional level, regardless of the specific federal state in question. Meyer attributed difficulties in deportations to local level issues and advocated for centralization of the process at the federal level.
