The central digital school platform in North Rhine-Westphalia is facing failure. Telekom subsidiary T-Systems has terminated contracts for the acquisition, repair and operation of Logineo NRW, according to documents cited by the “Tagesspiegel”. The project was launched in 2015, with the state providing 200 million euros for the initiative. The school cloud includes email addresses and calendars for teachers, who can also access teaching materials through Logineo. A messaging system and video conferencing are also part of the platform, which has been criticized since its launch due to various flaws. In 2023, the Telekom was awarded the contract to operate the cloud, tasked with addressing issues and integrating components. However, this has not been accomplished, mainly because parts of the documentation related to the programming are no longer available. Currently, Logineo NRW is being operated by the Kommunalen Rechenzentrum Niederrhein (KRZN).
According to SPD faction chief Jochen Ott, “the state government is simply not getting a handle on digitalizing schools.” He criticized the responsible Minister of Education Dorothee Feller (CDU) for the question of why a player like T-Systems can no longer guarantee the migration of Logineo platforms.
