Brandenburg reports an outbreak of Rinderleidsche and Pseudorinderleidsche (Rinderleidsche and Pseudorinderleidsche) (MKS). In the Märkisch-Oderland district, three water buffalo have died from it, according to Agriculture Minister Hanka Mittelstädt (SPD) on Friday in Potsdam.
The remaining animals of the affected farm will now be “humanely killed and disposed of in a harmless manner”, she added. The district has initiated all necessary measures, it was further stated.
Germany and the EU had been considered free of the Rinderleidsche and Pseudorinderleidsche (MKS) until now. The last cases were documented here in 1988. MKS is a highly contagious viral disease in cloven-hoofed animals like cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.
