German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier Emphasizes the Importance of Curiosity and Scientific Progress at ‘Jugend forscht’ Awards

In Hamburg, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier highlighted the significance of curiosity and scientific progress during the 60th edition of the ‘Jugend forscht’ competition, a national science fair for school students.

The President noted that the competition embodies the spirit of openness, tackling questions and problems in a fact-based manner and solving challenges through scientific inquiry. He recalled that the first award ceremony took place in Hamburg in 1966 and commended the development of the competition over the years.

Steinmeier also emphasized that education policy is never complete and must continually adapt to the changing society. He pointed out that despite investments in early childhood education and school improvements, there is still much to be done to establish a fair education system.

The President stressed the importance of fostering the potential of young people, regardless of their background or the educational level of their parents. He encouraged young women to engage in the natural sciences and underscored the need to utilize the potential of the youth to tackle the great challenges of the future.

The President extended his gratitude to all supporters of the competition and wished the finalists the best of luck.
