On the last day of the German-Israeli double visit in Jerusalem, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with former Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz. He is considered one of Benjamin Netanyahu’s opponents, whom Steinmeier spoke with the day before. Later on Wednesday, the Labor Party leader, Jair Golan, is also on the list of conversation partners. Steinmeier plans to visit the Kibbuz Beeri with Israeli President Herzog at the end of the trip, which was almost completely destroyed during the Hamas attack. Over 130 residents were killed and more than 50 people were abducted. Steinmeier had already visited Beeri shortly after the attack and pledged financial aid for reconstruction.
Israeli President Herzog visited Germany at the beginning of the week and on Tuesday, he and German Federal President Steinmeier flew to Israel. The occasion is the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany 60 years ago.
