President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has affirmed the feasibility of a wide-ranging state reform, mirroring proposals put forth by the “Initiative for a Capable State”. Addressing attendees at Bellevue Palace on Monday during the presentation of the initiative’s final report, Steinmeier expressed confidence in the potential for significant advancement within the nation’s governmental structure.
“I am convinced that the limits of our state’s effectiveness have neither been precisely measured nor reached” he stated. He emphasized the capacity for innovation and a willingness to embrace bolder approaches in shaping a more effective government.
Acknowledging the inherent challenges involved in such an undertaking, Steinmeier drew on his own past experience within government. He rejected the notion of institutional rigidity, suggesting that significant reform is achievable. The presentation, he clarified, should not be viewed as the culmination of the reform discussion, but rather as a transition – a handover of expertise towards practical implementation. Ultimately, he emphasized, the responsibility now rests with elected officials to advance these proposals.
