Steffen Bilger to succeed Thorsten Frei as parliamentary director of CDU/CSU-Fraktion in Baden-Württemberg. According to multiple sources in the Union faction, Bilger will take over the role from the designated Federal Ministry of the Chancellor. CDU leader Friedrich Merz and CSU chairman Markus Söder had proposed Jens Spahn as the new leader of the Union faction. Bilger has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009, serving as parliamentary state secretary in the Ministry of Transport and as deputy faction leader for agriculture and environmental issues. Bilger is also one of only four district chairmen in the large state CDU organization and has been a member of the CDU federal board since 2022. He has known Spahn since their time together in the Young Union.
