A significant agreement has been reached between Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe and the IG Metall trade union, outlining a comprehensive restructuring plan and a savings initiative intended to extend through 2030. The accord, finalized after extensive negotiations, aims to secure the future of the steel manufacturer and its workforce.
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Labour Minister, Karl-Josef Laumann, expressed his relief at the outcome, highlighting the importance of collaborative industrial relations. He emphasized that the agreement demonstrates the continued relevance and value of social partnership in navigating complex challenges.
Laumann acknowledged that discussions between employer and employee representatives are rarely straightforward, particularly when addressing concerns about job security and the well-being of families dependent on the company. He underscored that successful outcomes require robust social partnership.
The Minister further stated that respecting employee co-determination remains a fundamental prerequisite for companies to chart a course towards a sustainable future, particularly during difficult periods and specifically called for companies to work collaboratively with their employees.
