A German politician, Josefine Paul, the Family Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, has called for continuous and increasing funding for kindergartens from the Union and SPD parties.
In an interview with the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday edition), Paul stated, “I miss in the sondierung paper of the Union and SPD a clear declaration of support for the kindergarten quality law or a comparable model.” For the state, this would be the decisive signal: we need a reliable further financing of our early childhood education, she added.
So far, the federal government has provided two billion euros per year for kindergartens. However, Paul said, “But the costs are growing, so the amount should also increase continuously.” Instead, it is now announced that the federal government wants to finance language kindergartens again – but the state has already made a large effort to do so. Such announcements, that one could maybe do this or that program for a year, are not needed, Paul emphasized.
