German City and Municipal Association Warns of Backtracking on Heating Act
The German City and Municipal Association (DStGB) has cautioned against revising the Heating Act, as planned by the Union after the federal election.
“Anyone who wants to succeed in the energy transition must create reliable legal framework conditions” said DStGB energy expert Timm Fuchs to the Rheinische Post (Tuesday edition). “Only then will it be possible to win over municipalities, municipal utilities, the economy and above all, citizens for this central transformation task” the municipal association’s energy expert for municipal affairs added.
Municipalities and municipal companies could provide citizens with a future-proof municipal heat planning by giving them orientation, but they would require a reliable legal and funding framework themselves. “Putting the building energy act, as part of the transformation process, into question cannot be the right step. However, it is important that the act becomes clearer and more understandable. Moreover, all climate-friendly energy sources must be recognized in the sense of ‘genuine technology openness'” Fuchs emphasized further.
