Special Tribunal Against Russia Welcomed by Federal Justice Minister

Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) has welcomed a statement made in Lwiw regarding the establishment of a special tribunal in relation to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. “The Russian attack on Ukraine is a brutal, unlawful crime, unparalleled in recent European history” she said on Friday. “The law must therefore provide an answer.”

“Good news is that Ukraine and its allies have agreed to the establishment of a special tribunal. Those responsible for the unlawful Russian aggression must be held accountable through legal means” the Social Democrat stated.

“The International Criminal Court cannot prosecute the crime of the Russian aggression. The special tribunal will close this legal loophole” the minister explained. “Its establishment will send an important signal: There is no impunity for the crime of aggression. Europe stands firmly by Ukraine and on the side of the law.
