A senior official of the SPD’s parliamentary group, Katja Mast, has expressed concerns that the interests of women may be overlooked in the negotiations to form a new government. According to Mast, in talks with the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, it is crucial to involve women in decision-making processes and ensure their concerns are addressed.
Germany has approximately 43 million women, Mast emphasized and she expects their concerns to play a central role in the upcoming political decisions. The topics of reconciling family and work, equal care for the family, equal access to responsibility and decision-making power and women’s self-determination are still on the agenda, she added.
Mast also viewed the lower number of women in the new Bundestag as a negative sign, stating that the perspective of women on politics is urgently needed, as a structural question. She further warned that the growing AfD party could lead to a higher level of women’s disregard in the Bundestag, which must be countered.
