German politician Stefanie Hubig is reportedly set to become part of the new federal cabinet. Politico, a news magazine, reported on Sunday that she will be the new Federal Minister of Justice, citing sources from the party leadership. The 56-year-old lawyer has been the Minister of Education in Rhineland-Palatinate since 2016. The SPD plans to officially present its personnel roster on Monday.
Hubig initially worked as a public prosecutor and judge in Ingolstadt after passing her second legal state examination in the mid-1990s. In 2000, she moved to the Federal Ministry of Justice and in 2008 to the Mainz State Chancellery. In 2014, she became State Secretary and head of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
