According to a recent opinion poll, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has continued to lose support, even after their party convention. If the federal election were held on Sunday, the SPD would likely garner only 15 percent of the vote, a half-point decrease from the previous week, according to the trend poll conducted by the institute for the “Bild” newspaper.
The Greens also experienced a half-point decline, now standing at 13 percent. The CDU/CSU alliance, the Free Democratic Party, the Bavarian State Welfare (BSW), and the AfD all maintained their previous support levels, with the AfD showing a half-point increase to 22 percent.
“The CDU/CSU is likely to win the federal election with a significant lead” said Hermann Binkert, head of the Insa institute, in an interview with the newspaper. “The Union will probably lead the next federal government, and it is unclear whether it will need one or two coalition partners.”
The Insa trend poll surveyed a total of 2,005 people from January 10 to 13.
