SPD Urges Union to Act on Wage Agreement Law Amid Energy Crisis

The first parliamentary leader of the SPD-Bundestagsfraktion, Dirk Wiese, has announced urgent measures to reduce energy costs and held the Union accountable for implementing the agreed-upon Tariff Faithfulness Act. “In the coming weeks, our top priority is to relieve the economy of energy costs, particularly by reducing grid fees” said Wiese in an interview with the “Rheinischen Post” (Monday edition). This is of particular importance for energy-intensive industries and therefore crucial for the industrial state of NRW, said the SPD politician. “In addition, we want to support companies that have collective agreements. This was explicitly mentioned by Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in his government statement and I expressly welcome sending a signal here very soon” said Wiese. Strong economy and strong employees go hand in hand, said the SPD politician. The Bundestariftreuegesetz is intended to ensure that public contracts are only awarded to companies that pay collective wages. It will apply to procurement procedures of the federal government for amounts over 50,000 euros and for start-ups in their first four years of operation, only for amounts over 100,000 euros.
