SPD Urges Swift Entry for Afghan Local Staff

A German lawmaker is urging swift action to facilitate the entry of Afghan nationals who have already received assurances of acceptance into Germany. Derya Türk-Nachbaur, a foreign policy spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), emphasized the commitment to individuals who previously worked with German organizations. Her comments come amidst concerns regarding potential deportations of these individuals currently residing in Pakistan.

Türk-Nachbaur stated that security checks for those approved for relocation have been completed and that despite extensive vetting, many have been left in a state of prolonged uncertainty. She argued that each day of delay exacerbates their vulnerability and fear.

She highlighted the importance of close communication between German Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Pakistani authorities to ensure promised acceptance programs remain viable. Türk-Nachbaur specifically noted that many of those awaiting relocation previously served as local staff for German entities, often undertaking considerable personal risk in doing so and deserve prompt and safe passage to Germany.
