In a recent interview with the Rheinische Post, SPD’s parliamentary business manager Katja Mast expressed her concerns over the potential influence of US billionaire Elon Musk on German politics. According to Mast, the “alarm bells should be ringing” due to the smear campaigns used by powerful individuals like Musk to undermine politics in the country.
Mast accused Musk of supporting extreme right-wing parties in Europe, stating that it is obvious he hopes to profit from such actions. She emphasized the need for Germany and Europe to “assert themselves more sovereignly” in the face of such external influence.
The Left party had previously called for a travel ban for Musk in Germany, with the party’s federal business manager Janis Ehling stating that anyone using fascist symbols should not be welcome in the country. Ehling added that a travel ban for Musk should now be urgently considered.
