Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, SPD Parliamentary Group Managing Director Dirk Wiese stated that the Bürgergeld reform initiated by Bärbel Bas is progressing and deemed necessary He also highlighted a focus on strengthening mechanisms to address potential misuse of the system through stricter sanctions for individuals deemed ineligible
Wiese emphasized the party’s broader ambition to implement fundamental reforms to the social welfare state, contending that existing structures are often overly bureaucratic and fail to operate with optimal efficiency The SPD intends to address these shortcomings and streamline the system to ensure it functions more effectively
