According to reports by the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” the German City Association is expected to have a new president. The SPD group in the City Association plans to propose Leipzig’s mayor, Burkhard Jung, as the new face of the municipal umbrella organization, the newspaper writes. Leipzig had the right to propose the president in this year. Therefore, Jung’s election is considered almost certain to take place at the main meeting from May 13 to 15 in Hannover.
Jung was previously the first man in the City Association from June 2019 to November 2021. According to the FAZ report, Bonn’s Oberbürgermeister Katja Dörner (Grüne) is expected to remain vice-president, with Uwe Conradt becoming the new vice-president. Since 2019, the CDU politician has been the mayor of Saarbrücken. The candidates will be officially nominated during the meetings in Hannover.
