The SPD members have approved the coalition agreement with the Union with a large majority. As the party board announced on Wednesday, the approval rate was at 84.6 percent. According to the announcement, there were 15.4 percent of no votes, with a participation rate of around 56 percent. More than 358,000 members were asked to vote and could do so online for two weeks.
SPD General Secretary Matthias Miersch will present the result in the morning. It remains unclear when the SPD will announce the allocation of their ministerial positions. The new Federal Chancellor is to be elected and the cabinet appointed already on Tuesday next week.
