German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) Criticizes AfD’s Alice Weidel in TV Interview
In an interview with Politico, Chancellor Scholz criticized AfD’s Alice Weidel, stating that “it’s a woman who criticizes what she politically promotes.” Scholz emphasized the need to highlight the AfD’s divisive nature, which he claims threatens the country’s economic future and national perspective.
He also accused the CDU’s candidate for chancellor, Friedrich Merz, of evading the discussion on how to finance increased defense spending. “We don’t hear from Mr. Merz how this will be financed” Scholz said.
The Chancellor reiterated his demand for a reform of the debt brake, stating that it has reasons why Merz is not discussing the financing. “If we don’t take the path I propose, this can only be achieved by reducing investments in infrastructure, health, retirement, care and the modernization of our economy, which would not be right and in order and neither would anyone else in our neighborhood make that choice.
