The Hamburg citizens have re-elected Peter Tschentscher (SPD) as the first Bürgermeister of Hamburg on Wednesday. Out of the 119 deputies, 71 voted for Tschentscher, thus receiving ten more votes than required. 47 deputies voted against him and one person abstained.
With this, Tschentscher can now appoint his senators. Before the senators can take the oath of office, they must still be confirmed in secret voting by the citizens.
Following this, the coalition of SPD and Greens can begin their work. The majority of the senate is expected to consist of Tschentscher’s second term. The SPD is expected to appoint seven senators, while the Greens four.
