Spahn: Political Change Already Underway in Germany

Following the government statement by Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), Union faction chief Jens Spahn has claimed that a political shift has already begun. “It has started in Europe, German leadership is back. This has also been shown by the trips and images of the past few days” he told “Welt” (Thursday edition). “The political shift at the border, where it is being rejected at German borders, also in asylum applications, as agreed in the coalition” said Spahn.

Moreover, the CDU/CSU faction chief assured that the ruling factions will work constructively together. “Matthias Miersch and I want to achieve exactly that with each other. We will not always, not at every time, like how is it possible, agree. But we will always and quickly find a sustainable solution” he said. He believes that trust will return quickly for the new government, “if we implement the agreed measures and talk about and over each other well.”

When asked which projects of the federal government can be implemented quickly, Spahn said: “The migration turnaround at the borders has already started, but also the suspension of family reunification. IP addresses against child pornography. 30 percent depreciation for three consecutive years for new machines, new systems, investment in equipment. This is a real booster. It must come quickly, otherwise it will not work in this year either” said the Union faction chief.

“Abolish the reporting requirements, abolish the bond obligation, abolish the heating law. This can be done in simple, short, clear laws and we want to do this until the summer break” the CDU politician announced.

Regarding the demand of the Association of Bavarian Business to remove at least one religious holiday to strengthen the economy, Spahn said: “We will first implement everything we have agreed on to stimulate more jobs. Overwork should be taxed better, the Activ-Rent, so that work in old age really pays off. Abolish the citizen’s allowance, new basic security. Those who can work should work. All of this and more has been agreed. If the Bavarian business helps us with this, then we do not need to discuss other topics.
