Spahn Blames Inexperienced MPs For Coalition Issues

Following the summer recess, Jens Spahn, leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, attributed recent challenges within the governing coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD to a combination of factors, including the relative inexperience of many parliamentarians. He noted that a significant portion of CDU/CSU representatives have not previously held positions within a governing administration.

Spahn also highlighted the narrower majority currently enjoyed by the coalition compared to previous grand coalitions, coupled with what he described as strengthening political forces on both the right and left of the spectrum.

Despite these challenges, the CDU politician emphasized considerable overlap in the priorities of CDU/CSU and SPD voters. He suggested a consensus exists on key issues such as limiting irregular migration, improving integration and skilled worker immigration, addressing housing affordability and ensuring fairness within the social welfare system.

Spahn stated the focus now is on implementation, asserting that all commitments outlined in the coalition agreement will be adhered to. He acknowledged that discussions and debate will be necessary on issues not explicitly covered within the agreement.
