Söder Reaffirms Israels Key Partnership

The leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Markus Söder, has defended the German federal government’s measured response to the escalating situation in Gaza. During an interview with ZDF, Söder acknowledged the government’s efforts, spearheaded by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, emphasizing the importance of visibility and communication regarding the crisis.

While noting a slight improvement in the situation, Söder stated that further action is necessary. He underscored the importance of adhering to established principles when addressing the conflict, highlighting Israel’s status as “the” democracy in the Middle East and Germany’s closest partner in the region.

Söder reiterated Germany’s solidarity with Israel, referencing the recent attacks and the ongoing captivity of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. He firmly stated, “We stand by Israel” while simultaneously stressing the urgent need for increased humanitarian efforts.
