German politics took center stage as the Minister President of Bavaria and leader of the Christian Social Union, Markus Söder, shared his thoughts on the potential for a new government in Germany. In an interview with a news outlet, Söder expressed his confidence in the leadership of Friedrich Merz, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, stating that Merz would make more use of his authority as Chancellor than his predecessor, Olaf Scholz.
Söder criticized Scholz, saying that the latter had been a “null number” in his exercise of authority as Chancellor. In contrast, Söder believes Merz would be more effective in his role. When asked about the potential for a coalition government, Söder emphasized the need for change in Germany, stating that it is now evident to everyone.
The Bavarian leader also had harsh words for the Green Party, saying that they remained in their “ideological bubble” and that he did not see much potential for progress from them. Söder went so far as to say that the idea of a Black-Green coalition was, in his opinion, “essentially dead.
