Söder Calls for Tougher Penalties in Pool Assaults

Bavarian Premier Markus Söder, also head of the Christian Social Union (CSU), has advocated for stricter penalties and deportations in cases of sexual assault occurring in public swimming pools. Speaking on Wednesday in the “Politikergrillen mit Jan Philipp Burgard” program on the “Welt” television channel, Söder stated the need for “high penalties, especially for repeat offenders. And if someone is not German, they should be consistently deported.

Söder asserted that Germany currently deportates too few individuals convicted of crimes, emphasizing the necessity of a more consistent approach to such offenses. He expressed concern about the impact of these incidents on public safety, stating that individuals should not be afraid to use public facilities.

The Bavarian Premier believes perpetrators demonstrate “misguided views of our values” and that penalties are essential to convey the importance of these values. He argued that significant punishments would deter repeat offenses, with further action, including deportation, for subsequent violations.
