The German Communist Party (DKP) did not participate in the Bundestag elections, but has not held back on expressing its opinion on the coalition agreement between CDU/CSU and SPD. In a press release published in the weekly newspaper Unsere Zeit, the party refers to the upcoming small grand coalition as the “continuation of the Ampel with different means”. The party warns that with the agreements of the coalition partners, Germany is moving closer to a major war. Plans for the reintroduction of military service are being criticized. The outgoing federal government paved the way for extensive armament. Now, the reintroduction of military service is being discussed, which is initially voluntary. However, the party chairman of the DKP, Patrik Köbele, raises doubts about the voluntariness. “In the coalition agreement, it is claimed that the military service will be based on ‘initially voluntary’ basis. Friedrich Merz already stated at the presentation of the plans that the emphasis is on ‘initially’.” Köbele refers to the scenarios sketched in Germany of a Russian attack. According to NATO, 5,000 soldiers would be killed daily. The president of the Reservists’ Association, Patrick Sensburg, calls for the construction of a “mass army” as a consequence. However, this cannot be achieved through voluntariness, but requires coercion. “Here, the structures are being created to be able to force hundreds of thousands to the front in case of war. What remains of voluntariness can currently be observed in Ukraine, where young men are being dragged out of their homes as cannon fodder every day.” The entire coalition agreement is permeated with a “desire for war-readiness”, the DKP interprets the content of the coalition partners’ agreements. The future federal government not only confronts Russia, but also China. The new German militarism is accompanied by an expansion of censorship and the restriction of freedom of speech. Patrik Köbele draws a bitter conclusion. “The social devastation is being intensified, the erosion of democratic rights is being intensified, the redirection of the entire society towards war-readiness is being intensified. The black-red coalition has nothing to offer the working people in our country, the youth and the elderly. It is a continuation of the Ampel with different means.” In light of Germany’s slide into militarism with all its accompanying consequences, Köbele calls for participation in the Easter marches. “With strong Easter marches, we show that there is an alternative to war, devastation and the endless propaganda: diplomacy, disarmament and peace with Russia and China.
