Severe Thunderstorms Warned in Multiple German States, Germany’s Weather Service Reports
Germany’s national weather service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms to hit several federal states on Thursday afternoon and evening. The affected areas are parts of Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria, according to the agency’s announcement.
The potential dangers include uprooted trees, falling roof tiles or other objects, flash flooding of basements and streets, damage to buildings, cars and agricultural land due to hail and local lightning strikes. The severe weather warning currently remains in effect until 9 pm, with the possibility of an extension or expansion to additional areas.
A low-pressure system from the Atlantic is expected to bring thunderstorm-prone air to Germany from the west on Thursday, with a high-pressure system from the southwest to bring a significant weather calm and increasing warmth by Friday.
