Schulze's Last-Ditch Bid to Save Jobs

German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze (SPD) plans to promote 11 employees to positions with a B3 salary grade, according to a report by the Bild newspaper, citing a letter from Schulze’s parliamentary state secretary, Niels Annen (SPD), to CSU MP Wolfgang Stefinger.

The letter reportedly states that the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development has planned 11 promotions to the B3 salary grade of the Federal Salary Ordinance, with the B3 positions being remunerated at a monthly salary of 9,603 euros.

This is not the first time Schulze has announced a large number of promotions since the collapse of the Ampel coalition on November 6, 2024. Stefinger, a CSU MP, criticized the move, saying in an interview with Bild, “Nobody promotes so many people after the Ampel coalition’s collapse, as Frau Schulze is doing. As a result, she is not only the Minister of Development Cooperation, but also the Minister of Federal Promotions.
