Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), who is still fighting every minute to reduce the Union’s lead over his party until election day, hopes for a short, private break on election night.
“I hope to have the opportunity to toast my wife’s birthday with her” Scholz told the taz. He will, however, spend election night “of course in the Willy-Brandt-House and in various TV studios” to “hopefully speak about a good result for the SPD afterwards”.
Scholz’s wife, Britta Ernst, will turn 64 on the day of the federal election. If the polls are right, her husband will have more time to spend with her in the future.
