After the statements of the future US President Donald Trump on Canada and Greenland, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has expressed clear criticism over the Atlantic.
“Grenzes must not be shifted by force” Scholz said to journalists in Berlin on Wednesday, this is the “basis of our peace order.” Without mentioning Trump by name, it was clear who Scholz meant when he said, “there is a certain lack of understanding” about “current statements from the US.” He had discussed this with European partners on Wednesday.
The press statement was announced by the Chancellor’s office with an unusual short-term advance of less than an hour, which usually stands for a certain drama. Trump had recently publicly floated the idea that both Canada and Greenland could become part of the US, without ruling out military measures.
