Scheuer Faces Inquiry Fallout Over Road Toll Claims

A former member of the parliamentary investigative committee examining the toll system, Oliver Luksic, views the indictment against former Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer regarding potential false testimony as confirmation of the committee’s findings. In a statement to the “Rheinische Post” newspaper, Luksic said it would have been preferable for political consequences to have been drawn from the failings surrounding the toll system, emphasizing the clarity of the committee’s conclusions.

Luksic further stated that budgetary and procurement laws, as well as the rights of parliament, were disregarded. He suggested that awaiting the ruling of the European Court of Justice or pursuing a modified toll system even after the ruling would have been viable alternatives. He also expressed surprise at the timing of the prosecutor’s action, noting the delay since the initial investigations.
