Scheuer Faces Inquiry After Toll Road Scandal

Following the indictment of former Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) on suspicion of providing false testimony to the committee investigating the failed vehicle toll system, the Green party is calling for further clarification regarding the entire affair. Swantje Michaelsen, the Green party’s spokesperson for transport policy in the Bundestag, stated that many citizens feel a sense of injustice and desire comprehensive investigation.

Michaelsen highlighted that the failed toll system resulted in costs of approximately 250 million euros for taxpayers. She asserted that Scheuer violated budgetary and procurement laws and furthermore, misled parliament. “The fact that the Berlin public prosecutor’s office is now filing charges for false testimony clearly demonstrates that his statements raise questions not only politically, but also legally and that further clarification is needed” she said.
