Schalke 04 suffered a 1-0 defeat against Holstein Kiel in their fifth match of the 2. Bundesliga campaign.
Kiel secured an early lead, with Alexander Bernhardsson scoring after just six minutes. A powerful shot from approximately 15 meters took an unpreventable deflection, leaving the Schalke goalkeeper with no chance. Throughout the remainder of the first half, Schalke struggled to generate creative attacking plays, while Kiel was unable to significantly extend their advantage.
The second half witnessed a noticeable decline in the overall quality of the match. Schalke’s late offensive push proved unsuccessful, culminating in the visitors holding onto their narrow lead.
As a consequence of this setback, Schalke 04 has dropped to sixth place in the league standings, while Kiel has climbed to twelfth. Schalke will face Magdeburg next Saturday, while Kiel is scheduled to play against Karlsruhe the following day.
Elsewhere in Saturday’s afternoon fixtures, Karlsruher SC secured a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg and SV Darmstadt 98 also prevailed with a 2-1 win against Eintracht Braunschweig.
