Russian Federal Council Member Alexei Puschkow has shared his views on the future of US policy towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a Telegram post, Puschkow wrote that Zelenskyy’s recent behavior in the White House has made it almost impossible for him to receive public support from the US in the future.
Puschkow noted that Zelenskyy’s live television appearance with US President Donald Trump was a failure, even drawing a call for his resignation from Senator Lindsey Graham, a strong supporter of Ukraine. The Russian parliamentarian believes that the White House will now begin to consider alternative candidates for the Ukrainian presidency.
Puschkow also mentioned that the US will likely draw conclusions from the behavior of its European “allies.” He stated that it is clear that these European nations are no longer allies of Trump, but rather foes and that they have chosen to side with Zelenskyy.
In his post, Puschkow referred to a statement by Kaja Kallas, the Vice-President of the European Commission, who expressed support for Ukraine and stated that “today has made it clear that the free world needs a new leader.”
Puschkow continued, saying that if Trump needed an excuse to break with Europe, he now has more than enough.
During his meeting with Zelenskyy at the White House, Trump criticized the Ukrainian president for being disrespectful, saying that Ukraine has significant problems and will not be able to win the conflict with Russia. Trump also warned that the Kiev regime is playing with the lives of millions of people and risks a third world war.
