Satisfaction Swings: Relationships in a Daily Dance of Love and Frustration

Researchers at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz have discovered that the satisfaction in relationships can fluctuate significantly, both within a short period of days and throughout a single day. The study, which analyzed data from a total of 743 couples, found that the key factor in maintaining stable satisfaction is the mutual perception and fulfillment of needs.

According to Dr. Louisa Scheling from the Psychological Institute, “If needs are consistently met, then satisfaction will also remain at a high level.” Conversely, emotional instability in men was found to have a negative impact. The study, published in the “Journal of Personality and Social Psychology”, also reveals that short-term fluctuations are normal and do not necessarily predict the long-term success of a relationship. The researchers view this as an opportunity to help couples improve their communication.
