Saskia Esken Rules Out Pre-Early Withdrawal as SPD Co-Leader
In a recent interview with RTL and ntv, Saskia Esken, the co-leader of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), clarified that she is not considering an early withdrawal from her position. “I can’t rule out such a thing, because such conversations always take place again” Esken said.
Esken emphasized that the position of party co-leader is a prestigious but also a time-limited one, like every other public election office. “I also know that I am a member of the Bundestag for a term and must be clear about the fact that I can have a different future” she added, stating that this is simply the nature of politics.
However, Esken made it clear that she has made a significant contribution to keeping the SPD together so far and would like to continue doing so. “And I will work on making it possible” she said, hinting at her intention to stay in the position for the time being.
