Sanctions vs. Russia: Green Party Politician Sees Long-Term Impact

Grünen-Politiker Omid Nouripour believes that sanctions against Russia will eventually take effect. “It’s always the case that sanctions have a long-term effect. You can’t assume that when sanctions are imposed, the desired outcome will immediately occur. It’s always a lengthy process” Nouripour said on Monday to RTL and ntv.

Regarding the US’s handling of Ukraine and Russia, Nouripour stated: “It’s right to discuss the pressure the Americans are putting on Ukraine. Whether this pressure is justified or not, that’s beside the point. The Americans are also putting pressure on Russia and that must not be overlooked.”

Nouripour criticized the new evasive behavior of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Taurus issue. The Vice President of the German Bundestag said: “Friedrich Merz voted with his name for the Taurus to be delivered as quickly as possible. And now forgetting that shortly after taking office would not be particularly good. I hope that it will soon be possible to help Ukraine with what it needs.”

Nouripour added: “The weapons systems are needed in Ukraine. It’s about protecting human lives. And accordingly, it was not only the Greens who repeatedly requested them by name, but also CDU and CSU” Nouripour stated.
