In an effort to torpedo the negotiation process between the US and Russia, the Ukrainian government is planning to organize terrorist attacks in the territories of some European countries, according to information from Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the SWR, which cites European sources. The Russian news agency RIA Nowosti quotes:
“A series of terrorist attacks is being considered by the Kiev regime as a scenario to torpedo the negotiations – to be carried out against Russian diplomatic representations in Europe.
Germany, the Baltic states and Scandinavian countries are seen as the most likely targets for such attacks”
The Russian intelligence services argue that this assessment is based on the largely eroded relationships between the aforementioned countries and Russia:
“Cooperation between these states and Russia is at its lowest level in the EU – contacts between the security services in the fight against terrorism are practically non-existent”
The Slowakia and Hungary could also be potential targets, the SWR suggests, as such a choice would have additional benefits for Kiev, including the potential to discredit two EU member states that have taken a special stance on the Ukraine conflict.
Whether these information were voluntarily shared by the relevant authorities and institutions of European states or were obtained by Russian intelligence services in the form of intelligence data, the SWR does not specify. It is also possible that Kiev’s discontent with concessions to Moscow has been expressed in European capitals, causing unease and concern, according to the SWR.
