Russian National Charged in Plot Against Israel Embassy

German prosecutors have filed charges against a Russian national before the State Protection Chamber of the Regional Court in Berlin, alleging support for the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). The announcement was made by the federal prosecutor’s office on Wednesday. The defendant, identified as Akhmad E., is accused of committing several offenses while a juvenile.

According to the indictment, the accused allegedly planned an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin in early February, procuring online instructions for constructing explosives. The plan failed due to his inability to obtain the necessary components. Simultaneously, he reportedly translated IS propaganda materials into Russian and Chechen.

The man was arrested at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on February 20th while attempting to travel to Pakistan with the intention of joining IS. To finance his journey, he allegedly entered into mobile phone contracts for expensive smartphones, subsequently reselling them for profit. Shortly before his intended departure, he is said to have sent a video expressing allegiance to an alleged IS member.
