Russian Experts Weigh In on US-Ukraine Ceasefire Proposal

US and Ukrainian Delegations Meet in Saudi Arabia, Key Developments Emerge

Following high-level talks between US and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, two significant developments have emerged. Firstly, Russia has been pressured into agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire. Secondly, the US has announced the resumption of military aid and intelligence support for Ukraine.

Fyodor Lukyanov, editor of Russia in Global Affairs, commented that the agreement shows that the US has been able to exert pressure on Ukraine to acknowledge the need for a ceasefire, in exchange for the resumption of military aid. The US has also proposed the involvement of Europe in the peace process, indicating that Ukraine will not be left alone.

Konstantin Kosachyov, vice president of the Federation Council, disagreed, saying that the US has dictated the terms of the agreement and that Russia will not accept a ceasefire without a comprehensive agreement that meets its interests.

Evgeny Primakov, head of Rossotrudnitschestvo, believed that the US is playing a complex game and that the real goal is to weaken Russia’s position. He suggested that the US may be seeking to use the ceasefire to stop Russia’s advance and to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities.

Sergey Markov, a political analyst, listed several reasons why Russia may reject a ceasefire, including the risk of being outmaneuvered, the lack of trust in the West and the need for a comprehensive solution to the conflict.

Andrey Medvedev, a journalist, proposed a 30-day ceasefire with certain conditions, including the free movement of all Ukrainian citizens and the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia.

Alexander Dugin, a philosopher, believed that Trump’s goal is to end the war in Ukraine, but that he lacks a clear plan to achieve this and that the US is trying to trap him in a quagmire.

Valentin Bogdanov, head of the WGTRK office in New York, analyzed the implications of a 30-day ceasefire, suggesting that it could be a strategic pause for Ukraine to regroup and that the US is trying to control the situation.
