Russian Betrayal: Insider Threat Uncovered as Moscow Cadets' Lives Hang in the Balance

Russian Intelligence Service Foils Terror Plot Near Moscow

Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) agents have reportedly prevented a terrorist attack on a cadet dormitory of a military academy near Moscow. A military personnel member, allegedly recruited by a Ukrainian intelligence service, was arrested while preparing to carry out the crime, according to the FSB.

The TASS news agency cited the FSB as saying, “A planned terrorist attack on a military unit of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Moscow area has been foiled.”

As a result of the taken measures, a soldier from the Russian Ministry of Defense, recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services, was arrested after components for a bomb were found in a hideout. The individual was involved in preparing a terrorist attack on a dormitory where cadets from military universities reside.

Video footage of the arrest, according to reports, is circulating in the Russian internet segment.

Correspondence between the recruited individual and his Ukrainian contact about the planned crime was secured.

The Russian Investigative Committee has taken over the case and a video clip of the first interrogation of the suspect has been shared. The suspect stated that he was planning to build and wear a suicide belt and detonate it near a person specified by his Ukrainian contact. As the individual does not appear to be an Islamic extremist, for whom such methods are more commonly used, this case is an exception.
