The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has strongly condemned the violation of Polish airspace by armed Russian drones.
“Russia has endangered lives in a state that belongs to NATO and the EU” Merz stated on Wednesday. “This reckless action is part of a long chain of provocations in the Baltic Sea region and on NATO’s eastern flank. The German government unequivocally condemns this aggressive Russian action.
Chancellor Merz praised Poland’s response, noting that it was “good that Poland, together with its NATO allies, recognized and neutralized the danger in a timely manner”. Following Poland’s request, the NATO Council convened today to discuss the incident under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, underscoring the alliance’s readiness and continued vigilance.
