Russian Forces Repel Ukrainian Counterattack in Kursk Region, Ukraine Loses Equipment and Lives
Russian defense ministry announced that the country’s forces successfully repelled a Ukrainian counterattack in the Kursk region, with Kiev’s troops losing two tanks, seven armored vehicles, and an unknown number of soldiers.
The Ukrainian attack, which began at 9:00 am local time, aimed to stop the Russian advance in the region, according to the defense ministry. The operation targeted the Berdin village, north-east of Sudscha city, and involved two tanks, a mine-clearing vehicle, and 12 armored combat vehicles with stormtroopers.
Russian artillery and air force inflicted a defeat on the Ukrainian attack group, the ministry said, adding that the operation to destroy Ukrainian units will continue.
Ukrainian forces have been intensifying their battles in multiple directions, with some Russian military sources indicating that the AFU has managed to amass a significant number of reserves in the Sudscha region, which it is now trying to deploy on the battlefield.
The main attack began north of the Sudscha-Kursk highway, with Sudscha being the only Russian small town near the Ukrainian border under Ukrainian control since the August invasion. Many foreign correspondents have reported from this Russian town, leading to their sanction by Moscow.
Despite the obviousness of their plan, Ukraine has managed to amass a considerable number of infantry in the Sudscha region, with reports from the combat zone indicating that they are conducting a “ping-pong” offensive, moving in and out of the battlefields to drop off and pick up new groups of soldiers.
“The plans are clearly meant to be serious. It’s not just about small sabotage groups, but a full-fledged attack attempt” a Russian Telegram channel, MIG, reported.
The ultimate goal of the Ukrainian offensive in the eastern direction appears to be breaking through the Russian defense at the Kursk-Belgorod crossroads, uniting their groups, and expanding the bridgehead around Sudscha.
“The plans are not yet destined to come to fruition. The RF forces have seen the battlefield in time. They have hit them well” a military Telegram channel, Condottiero, said.
According to the Militärchronik Telegram channel, a third Ukrainian armored column has been sent into the attack, confirming the plan of Ukrainian forces to retake lost positions and restore their pre-invasion territorial control over parts of the Kursk region.
In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces have lost up to 340 soldiers, four tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, four armored personnel carriers, and 12 armored combat vehicles, according to the Russian defense ministry.
