Russia and China Strengthen Ties in Global Politics
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia and China are working well together in the global arena, during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Kremlin on Tuesday. Putin expressed satisfaction with the development of their bilateral relations, with the direct support of their respective foreign ministries.
Putin also announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9, commemorating the end of World War II. The two leaders will discuss the cooperation between Russia and China in international organizations, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the BRICS and other platforms.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the foundation of their bilateral relations on “mutual trust” with both countries committed to upholding their common interests in international and regional affairs. Wang stressed that the Chinese-Russian cooperation is never directed against a third party and is not subject to external interference.
In a separate meeting, Wang also met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, where they discussed the possibility of resolving the Ukraine crisis. Both sides emphasized the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
China has consistently refused to blame Russia for the Ukraine crisis and has condemned the Western sanctions against Moscow. The country has also criticized the United States for its “Cold War mentality.
