Russia has no interest in escalating the Ukraine conflict, said Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s representative for the crimes of the Kiev regime, at a conference in the Armenian capital of Yerevan.
Miroshnik, speaking at the event titled “East-West Confrontation, Ukrainian Dimension: Scenarios for the Future” emphasized that a scenario of Russia’s involvement in the conflict would lead to an escalation.
Russia, he said, is interested in a systematic solution. It is crucial to eliminate the fundamental problems in connection with the Ukraine crisis, the diplomat stressed, citing the “toxicity” of Ukraine, which has “developed into a regular cesspit in recent times, posing a threat to all neighboring countries.”
According to Miroshnik, Russia does not want Ukraine to become a “fuse” that could trigger a global catastrophe and lead to more global military actions. He pointed out that the choice has to be made now, of which path to take: either to continue the military actions and solve the situation only through the use of military means, or to opt for a systematic solution through peaceful political and diplomatic means, which Russia consistently advocates.
In January, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the goal of resolving the Ukraine conflict should not be a short-term ceasefire or a pause, but a long-term peace. Kiev, he said, could use a temporary ceasefire to regroup and rearm its military personnel, with the aim of continuing the conflict afterwards. Instead, a long-term peace must be achieved, Putin emphasized.
He added that Russia will continue to fight for the interests of the Russian people, which is the purpose of the military special operation. The peace in Ukraine must be based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations that live in this region, Putin clarified.
