Right-Wing Crime Soars

German Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser (SPD), is alarmed by the increase in right-wing extremist crimes. According to the police’s preliminary numbers for the year 2024, the number of right-wing extremist crimes is expected to reach a new record high, Faeser said on Monday.

There is an average of more than three right-wing extremist violent crimes per day in Germany. The increase also shows that more crimes are being investigated and more cases are being pursued. “What’s crucial is to bring perpetrators quickly and consistently before the court” the Minister said.

“The Federal Criminal Police Office and the state authorities are working together with a strong effort against hate crime, which can pave the way for violence” Faeser said. “We particularly see a strong increase in the number of cases in the area of hate crime – and therefore also more criminal prosecution. We also rely on strong political education as the best prevention against extremism.”

“The fight against right-wing extremism is not led by the security authorities alone. We must also stand clearly against those in politics and society who openly fan racism and hatred” the Federal Minister of the Interior said. A climate of resentment also leads to more right-wing extremist crimes and violence.
